M1128 MGS Slat Armour?

Jason Mansfield
suggested this on April 23, 2012, 09:01

Hello,

My name is Jason Mansfield. I'm an avid, advanced modeler and have been doing models since I was about 7-8. I'm writing because I have a great interest in modern armor subjects such as the M1126 Stryker. I recently posted a couple pictures to your Facebook page that had a completed build up of AFV Club's M1132 Engineer Stryker Vehicle. On my model, I included your company's slat armor set (which I had to heavily modify to fit the M1132) as well as all the other bits and pieces of photo-etch that Eduard has put out for it. I also provided an aftermarket interior to it as well. You might have seen it.

I'm writing because I know there are a lot of modelers out there that like the slat armor kits for different vehicles and have completed them with great results. I also know there's other companies out there that put out the slat armor sets. But they're not as detailed and great looking as yours! Seeing how the slat armor is completely different on the M1128 MGS, I would like to know if there is plans in the works to make a slat armor set for AFV Club's M1128 MGS? If not, how about making a set? I know that quite a few people here in the US and around the world would buy that particular set up quickly, including me! And it would be a great addition to the ever popular Stryker family!

So if at all possible please let me know if there is a slat armor set coming for AFV Club's M1128 MGS or perhaps make one? I can't scratch build an entire slat set and I can only go so far on modifying one.

I would love to hear back from you as soon as possible! Thank you for your time in reading this!

Sincere regards,
Jason Mansfield

Hello Jason,

We've noticed the posted photos you mentioned - pretty awesome work indeed.

Unfortunately, we currently do not plan to design/manufacture/release details for the kit mentioned.

Perhaps we'll get to it in near future.

As I wrote to you Jason, we're already investigating possible options.

If anyone has any specific suggestions, let them be posted right here! You can help us (and yourself as well) big-time with your feedback!

For the AVF club M1128. If you'd like I could send a unbuilt kit to you, that way the team has an start point for the design of the slat set.

Here's another M1128 build with scratch built slat http://www.armorama.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=SquawkBox&file=...

And also, from what I've been researching, the M1128 doesn't carry the extra armor plates like the M1126, M1130 and M1127 that the slat armor attaches to. So that will also keep the manufacturing costs down as well!

Hey Libor! So I'm just curious to know what management has said. Any news yet? I see we've got 3 "thumbs up" as well. Seems to be a very much liked topic!

Dear Libor,

just like Jason, I'd love to see a Slat Armor PE kit for the AFV Club M1128 Stryker MGS in 1/35 scale. It is something very special and from what I read in various modelling boards, a lot of people are actually waiting for some manufacturer to release such a set.

I hope I can get some of them to post here as well.

Thank you for giving the customers such a great platform to suggest new items!

Sounds like it could make  an interesting build, with that slat armor.

Will be definitely buying the M1128  MGS, if this Slat Armour will ever be produced

Hey Libor, so I was thinking, if the design team there were to design the slat armor for the M1128, they should design it like they did with the Canadian Leopard 2A6M slat armor and the Challenger 2 Enhanced slat armor. Where they make the slat sections one piece and then all they have to do is bend the pieces to shape. And it sounds like we've got more customers looking for M1128 MGS slat armor! ;)

M1128 Slat armor is definitely needed.  I also agree with Jason that they should be designed like the Leopard and Challenger slat armor.  If possible, they should be a little more robust too.  The original Stryker slat armor bends and kinks too easily, making it harder to assemble

I would love to see  the MGS slat armor done in PE. I've had the kit shelved for months trying to build skills to scratch my own...but an actual Eduard set would be fantastic!!!  Come on guys..there's tons of builders that NEED this set

Libor, I hope you're getting these requests! ;) You now have people from at least 4 different countries asking for M1128 MGS slat armor. It's a global request! ;)

Hey Eduard team, so I got to thinking and here are some reasons for designing and producing the Slat armor for the M1128: - The Stryker vehicle family is a very popular subject among modern era modelers. - There is a global demand for it - Global demand = Profit. - Addtional Armor like the other Stryker vehicles is not needed on the M1128 MGS - Less Addtional Armor = less production and manufacturing costs = more profit. - Your customers have given you ideas on how to design it with the inexperienced/ novice modeler in mind. - Simplier design and construction to customers with less skills as an exprienced modeler also = more sales = even more profit. - Photo Etching costs considerably less than a mould or punch set. Exponentially less. Hope that helps in determining whether or not to produce a Slat Armor set for the AFV Club M1128 MGS. This seems to be a win-win for all! :)
